Apple apologises over Maps

Apple’s public apology came over their release of its home grown mapApple apologises over Maps service released with iOS 6 and the iPhone 5 this fall. Based on Dutch navigation equipment and digital map maker
TomTom NV’s data, Maps faced immense criticism among Apple users who upgraded to iOS 6. Apple’s new CEO Tim Cook apologised in a letter
published on the Apple website. In his words: “We are extremely sorry for the frustration this has caused our customers and we are doing everything we can to make Maps better.” Losing most of its market share to rival Google, Apple is on a new quest to end its dependency on Google products such as Google Maps. But the first release of Apple’s mapping service contained obvious bugs and lacked what
Google offered its users over the years of interactive customisation and campaigning. In a rare show of humility, Mr Cook ended up recommending iPhone users to use alternatives. He wrote in the letter: “While we’re improving Maps, you can try alternatives by downloading map apps fromlthe App Store like Bing, MapQuest and Waze, dr use Google or Nokia Maps by.going to their wedsites and creating an icon on your home screen to their web app.”
