pieces, is essentially a robe-like over-garment, worn
by millions of Muslim women in parts of the Islamic
world, Traditional abaya are black & may be either a
large square of fabric draped from the shoulders or
head, or a Ions black caftan, Today abayas are cut
from light, flowing fabrics like crepe, georgette & chiffon,
They are now made in colors other than black.
Abayas are known by various names but serve the
same purpose, which is to cover, Contemporary styles
differ from region to region: some abayas have embroidery
on black material while others are brightly
colored & have different forms of artwork across
them, Today you can see splashes of color, leather &
metal studs on abayas.
Fashion designers are making abayas to match the
Gucci shoes & Hermes handbags of high-spending
women in the Gulf, Ahead of the Paris couture shows,
top designers have joined a tricky exercise to glam up
the abaya. Recently, a fashion show featuring contemporary
abayas was organized at Paris’ famous
Hotel George V (owned by a Saudi prince), To music
